Despite having spent another day bedridden, two very important things happened today.
1. I get to VOTE!!! My advanced ballot finally came in the mail today, and I'm sending it out first thing in the morning. I was getting really worried that I wouldn't be able to vote in what might be the most important presidential election in my lifetime. Whew, what a relief.
2. I enrolled in classes for spring semester at KU! 6 classes, 18 hours, and they are:
LAT 302: Hexameter Poetry
HA/CLSX 526: Greek Art and Archaeology
HA 565: Art Since 1945
HWC 204: Western Civilization I
MKTG 305: Survey of Marketing
DANC 470: Renaissance and Baroque Dance
Yep, that's right, I'm taking a dance class! That is, if there are no strong objections from the people I love. I got an email from the History of Art list serve about it. There is no prerequisite, and the teacher says she loves to have art history students in the class. It will be about the European dances of the 15th - 18th centuries, 'when dance was central to people's lives in both court and countryside', and there are two independent projects that I can tie into art history.
The way things are shaping up for next semester, I'll have a lot on my plate. Jr/Sr classes in both of my majors and minor. Running for Student Senate, again. Working at the UAC. And if the stars line up for ol' Vans, working on a research project, which will be huge. So I think a dance class will be a refreshing change of pace, and so much fun!
Happy Birthday, Trevor!

Dance class eh? I hear thats the way to a womans....
Objections? To dance? Sounds great. It will likely be formal, highly stylized, and oodles of fun. Dance from those periods makes most sense in conjunction with the clothing -- floor length dresses and (brace yourself) corsets. Women are corseted from the late 15th century to about 1920 -- and most of that time, at court and out of court. Nothing affects dance movement as much as clothing.
The classes look great. Hexameter. Yikes. In English?
The voting thing is VERY exciting. Congratulations. Potentially, it is, indeed, a transformative election. And you were present at the Creation.
Happy trails. Buon viaggio. Have a great trip.
Love, k
A dance class!!!!! Dude. That's amazing. I'm going to make you show me all your moves :)
I enrolled too! Want to take that women in classical something with me our senior year?
I'm taking more constitutional law, (but it'll be fun! Roe v. Wade, etc.) reproductive policy, "race, gender and post-colonial discourse," political parties and public policy & environmental justice. Wooohooo! only 15 hours, though. Please try not to die next semester. I'll want to have lots of Vans time :)
Have a WONDERFUL time this weekend, and congratulations on contributing to our fine democracy. I can't wait for November 4th. Love you.
