Bath/Bristol

Today I am on my second Proscenium tour. We spent most of the day at Bath. I got to tour the Roman Baths, which were built in the 1st-4th century CE. The baths are fueled by an underground hot spring that is still running. I even got to taste some of the water which is supposed to have healing properties, something like 30+ minerals in every glass. To be honest, it tasted a lot like blood to me. I did not drink much. Bath is also where Jane Austen lived for a long time. I went to the Jane Austen Center and bought a copy of Emma, which is one of the books I have to read this semester for my English class anyway. They had first edition copies of Jane Austen novels available, but they were something like £60 - £300. Gorgeous though. I got a £5 thrift edition with a really neat cover. We saw some really neat architecture in Bath as well. It was such a beautiful day, we had a picnic for lunch.

Tonight our accommodation is in Bristol. We are staying at a really neat hotel and I am currently using the computer in our room, which is probably the nicest computer I have ever used. Completely complementary. It's a really nice Mac. I didn't sleep well last night so I am going to read and enjoy the super soft bed for as long as I can. Tomorrow I go to the place of the druids!

Wow. I really envy you visiting Bath and Bristol. The architecture of Bristol must be wonderful. And the waters of Bath -- better to bathe in, probably, than to drink. Thus the name. You've maybe found the reason it's not called the Town of Drink.

Truth be told, those prices for original Jane Austen editions don't sound so bad. Could be a nice investment. . . . Maybe you can find a nice 70 pound copy with Jane's authenticated signature on it.
