Leicester: Day 10

It is a wonderful day because I am wearing contacts again and they feel great!

Slept in again, but I also went to campus to attend a drinks and refreshments thing for the Ancient History and Archeology department. That's right, I drank wine at four o'clock in the afternoon on campus, something that will never happen at KU, unfortunately, at least not while I am still 20. It was great fun and I met some new people. I would like to make one observation though that will sound weird and random, but I've seen it numerous times. This is the third or fourth event I've been to in England where there are snacks provided. They have all sorts of chips: pringles, potato, barbecue, etc. They have salsa, two kinds, even. Do they have tortilla chips? None whatsoever. Isn't that strange? Who is going to try salsa with regular potato chips? I did, just because I wanted to see what the salsa tasted like. It was weird. I guess it is something I will just not ever understand. They really don't have any Mexican food here, I don't know why they have salsa. At this event, they also had hummus out, but there was no pita bread to be found...

Dinner was lasagna, and it was mm mm good. Afterwards I went on an Asda adventure and then watched the rest of Forrest Gump. Such a wonderful movie. Then Kate and I went to the Beaumont bar for a drink, I met a guy named Sven, ya know, the usual. I also heard Kate tell a guy from Arizona what living was like in South Africa. She shared some of her experiences about the poverty stricken areas. His response was, 'I've never lived in a place where I've had to watch my back, I guess I'll never leave'. Not in so many words, but you get the point. Needless to say, Kate has finally met one of the Americans that she had heard about but didn't believe existed. Now I am supposed to visit her in South Africa.

Your life is s'damn global now. I'm jealous and excited for you and want to hear stories about South Africa.

Thanks for the fb gift :) I love those civic engagementy things.

Also, was Sven cute? I'm glad you got to drink wine on campus with your people. Definitely weird that the British provide condiments without any appropriate condiment dippers. Maybe it's an unwritten rule that one brings one's own tortilla chips? Or maybe it's your job to introduce them to the magic of Mexican food...speaking of which, I'm figuring out how to ship salsa internationally.

So. This is me, breathing. Life is just fine, (although I'll have to tell you about medical adventures in an email). The VP debates last night were both infuriating and fantastic. I'ma post an article on my fb soon, you should check it out.

I love you. Happy Friday.
