Leicester: Day 18

Monday mornings are super fun. I get up at 7:00, eat breakfast at 7:30, and walk to class with Kate starting at 8:00 so we can be in our lectures at 9:00. This morning's English lecture concerned Wordsworth again, with a focus on the 'egotistical sublime'. You know you're jealous. After a lecture and a seminar on the topic, I think I have a grip on the idea. Wordsworth was writing in such a way as to show the reader his own perception of an event or person or place. Later poets such as Keats wrote to show the reader an event or person or place in such a fashion as to allow the reader to perceive it themselves and in their own way, without the bias of the poet. All in all, I have enjoyed reading Wordsworth, even if I am not picking up on everything that I should be.

I picked up a used copy of Middlemarch by George Eliot today, as I have to have the entire thing read by the end of the semester. It's a piece. I also checked out Plutarch On Sparta from the Library. The next few days are going to hold a lot of reading for me. According to my Ancient History professor, I should be doing 10 hours of reading every week for that class alone. I started on that today. I'll try to keep the blog interesting somehow, but I think my nightlife may be at an end. I am feeling burnt out.

I am having difficulties with the slide show. I tried to add more pictures and somehow messed them up. I'm working on it.

That some heeaaaaaaavy reading, girlfriend. Although I think you'll enjoy Keats-he takes a few go-throughs to completely digest, but he's delightful and inventive and reminds me a little of John Cross.

I'm sad to hear that your nightlife might have to be on hiatus, but I'm delighted for you that you're getting a British education about British literature. I am actually jealous.

Love you, wifey.
