London: Day 7

Looks like I won't be seeing any more shows before I leave London, no affordable tickets left for tonight, there are no shows on Sundays, and we leave Monday morning. S'okay, I'll make it back to London for a weekend sometime this semester. Not only do I need to see another show, but also the new Rothko exhibit at the Tate, which doesn't open until 26 September, but then it's open until February 2009.

So this morning we did a Shakespeare walking tour of the neighborhood just south of London Bridge across the Thames. It was really fun, lots of history on theatre, brothels, prisons, and pubs. The original theatres are all gone, but some of the pubs are still standing. They're older than America. Seriously. We also got to go through the replica of the Globe. Cool stuff. The orchestra was warming up for the afternoon show.

After lunch we went through the Tate Modern Art Museum. We only had half an hour, so our tour guide showed us the highlights (Picasso, Monet, Pollock). After the little I saw, I am definitely going back tomorrow on our free day.

The Whole World + The Work = The Whole World

We then crossed the Millennium Bridge, AKA the Wibbildy Wobbledy Bridge, to St. Paul's Cathedral. Designed by Christopher Wren, it is officially the only baroque style building I've really liked. We climbed the 300+ stairs to the top of the dome, well worth the climb, to view all of London. I took a lot of pictures, a lot a lot. It was the most beautiful clear day out, barely a cloud in the sky.

Since then I have made my way back to the hotel after being shot down at the ticket booth. I'm using the internet while I can, it's so spotty here, and I'll probably go out tonight since we don't have to be anywhere in the morning. Tomorrow is our free day, I think we might have something planned for the evening, and aside from sleeping in, I may go to Hamden (sp?) Court Market as well as back to the Tate, but we'll see.

St. Paul's AND Shakespeare? I'm more jealous of you now than I've ever been. I'm so glad you liked Wren's architecture and got to see some highlights at the Tate Modern. Mothafuckin Shakespeare. Cool. Sorry you got shot down at the ticket booth. You should sneak it-dazzle the ticket takers with your immaculate teeth or something.
