Leicester: Day 51

Crunch time. I have two essays due tomorrow afternoon. One is finished. The other is not. Sometimes I think the existence of people who work best under pressure is a myth. As with all academic writing, the formatting is getting the best of me. The Ancient History department has a completely different way of citing works. Also, I'm not sure if I am allowed to stick with my BCE dates, what if they take points off because somewhere in their 200+ pages department manual it says specifically to date AD/BC? On the other hand, since we are not allowed to put our names on our papers, using BCE might indicate that I am a JYA student, and should therefore be pitied. Don't they realize I've been too busy traveling and procrastinating to bother myself with bibliographies? And since when is there supposed to be a Works Cited but not Consulted list? I don't like the idea of my essays being compared with the essays of students who are in their final year...it makes me self-conscience. Also, try writing an essay about an Ancient Greek culture without knowing any Greek.

In lighter news, here is a discourse that occurred today between me and my friend Christina as we tried to make toast at brunch:

Christina: 'The Queen is going to be here this week, and none of the toasters are working?'
Me: 'Yeah, what if the Queen wants to make some toast?'
Christina: 'You'd think they could at least spring for some working toasters if they are going to repaint and refloor every surface.'
Me: 'The Queen will not be pleased if she can't have toast.'

If I don't blog tomorrow it is because I have passed out after staying up all night to finish this paper and have gone into a slight coma. Or because I go to Zanzibar to celebrate finishing my papers. Whichever happens first.

I know you can do this. Please see my pep talks on gchat and know that I love you and believe in you and am excited to read your (revised?) essays.

Congratulations on making it this far. Please get some sleep sometime soon.

So there are two choices: coma WITHOUT Zanzibar and coma WITH Zanzibar. Here in Utah, we agree with Elise: sleep.

Perhaps a page at the beginning of the paper, submitted like a cover letter over a resume. It could say something like, "Since dating systems based on a majority religion should not be preferred in academic scholarship, the author chooses to . . . ."

As chefs to the Queen, you might consider alternatives to a toaster. In fact, toast was common in England before the toaster was invented. (A stove can make toast, too.)

Stay healthy ===SLEEP! There are more Mondays to come.

Personally, I think the Queen needs to try bagels!
