Skopje: Day 1

Everything I have experienced in Skopje has been wonderful, getting here, however, is a different story.

It's starts with the train station refusing to sell me a train ticket to the airport. The machines wouldn't except my debit card. The desks were not open yet. There were machines that would except coins but not bills. All I had was bills. The stores would not give me change for my bills. For the fear of missing my flight, I had to spend unnecessary money just to get change. I read my flight information incorrectly. I saw the latest check-in time as the beginning check-in. I almost missed it, but didn't, and had to pay extra for my excess baggage. Even after paying extra, my baggage did not make it with me to Skopje. Perhaps they will be here tomorrow.

Sandra's mother and brother met me at the airport. They are so nice. We had a wonderful dinner with some of Sandra's friends. Sandra mentioned to her mother that I did not like vegetables, but she forgot to mention my nut allergy. That only became a problem when it came to dessert. Sandra's mom made baklava. She was delighted to hear that my mother also made terrific baklava, but horrified when she realised that I could not have any. It was okay, I was already stuffed full by that time. I had heaps of foreign food, and it was glorious.

Sandra made it safely home as well, and with all of her baggage.

Safe in Skopje! We are SO glad to hear that. I'm sure the luggage will make it, too.

Susan has just put final touches on her baklava, slathering it with honey. We should have a blakava "throw down," and I suggest we have it in Macedonia. (Can you scam a recipe or two?)

Love,
k

We are so glad to hear you made it! I'm sorry to hear about the coins, the late check in and the excess baggage charge but...it's all part of the experience AND it shows you CAN handle it! I'm so proud of you!
Tell Sandra's parents we would like to also meet them sometime. Hurry home - a burrito, homemade tamales, peanut butter blossoms and yes - baklava will be waiting. Along with the two dogs, three cats and a partridge in a pear tree.
Love you,
M

Vans, your mother is delightful. So is Kenn.

Ok, so...you dealt with all of that without crying or yelling? You are a woman of steel. Truly. I'm impressed. And I'm so glad you made it safely and that you didn't slip up and eat baklava. xoxo
