Amsterdam: Day 4

No rain today, in fact, I walked in the sun for a while. It was glorious. On my way to go to the Rijksmuseum, I stumbled upon a tulip market. I took plenty of pictures for Mom. In the Rijks, I spent three hours looking at Rembrandt, Hals, and Vermeer. That was fun, but there wasn't as much to see as I was expecting. Still, I got to see the 'Night Watch'.

All the walking has been fruitful. I found many unexpected Latin inscriptions all over the city. There is a 19th century theatre building that has 'SPQA' at the top of the facade. There is a dress boutique that is named 'Invito' and in the store there is one wall covered with the Latin dictionary entry for 'invito'. Really interesting. And there is a public monument that has both Latin and Dutch inscriptions. I took lots of pictures.

It is strange being here by myself. I keep thinking about what I would be doing if I were with other people, and then I just end up walking around and people watching, because there's no reason not to. This has been a long semester and I am tired. It's nice to just mosey through the city and watch everything, well, definitely not everything, just the street life.

Rembrandt rocks. Vermeer rocks. Halls rocks.

This site-seeing alone must be a very different experience. You will no doubt see things differently than you would in company.

Hope your day of travel goes well. Please say hello to Sandra.

We love you,
k

Latin! Success! I'm so proud of you for being academic through academic burnout and fascinating people-watching. I'm curious about what you would have done with me if I was there :)
